Pair of Vintage Danish Rosewood Sideboards by Poul Hundevad - Hundevad &Co 1960s
We are proud to offer these two stunning Rosewood sideboards as a matched pair. These mid-century Danish low cabinets were designed by the esteemed Poul Hundevad, whose work is highly sought after by collectors of vintage furniture. Having been lovingly preserved together in the same home for several decades with only one owner, their shared provenance adds a remarkable history to them. The rich rosewood surfaces are stunning, showcasing deep, organic grains that exemplify Nordic warmth.
In excellent condition overall. Please see photos for close-ups of minor surface marks.
A truly unique feature on both cabinets is a distinct, symmetrical sun-stained band running along the top; a beautiful patina formed where shelves once protected the rosewood, creating an accidental stripe that chronicles their long history.
Hundevad, an apprentice-trained Danish cabinetmaker who founded his own company in 1947, imbued his designs with a masterful blend of form and function. Each sideboard features locking doors that open to reveal practical, adjustable internal shelves and light birch storage trays, offering a beautiful contrast to the dark exterior. In a careful restoration, the original skirting was replaced with solid, cylindrical lightly conical teak legs, mounted into the original bolt fittings. These legs are dark-stained to harmonize with the rosewood, now providing the sideboards with a sleek, lifted aesthetic which enhances their design and architectural quality.
Having been gently cleaned and oiled to revive the wood's natural glow without erasing its character, this exceptional pair stand as both a functional storage solution and a significant investment in classic Danish design. They are ready to bring their timeless elegance, storied history, and captivating visual appeal to a discerning collector's interior.
