Vintage 1970s Leather Lounge Chairs by Elsa & Nordahl Solheim for Rybo Rykken
A pair of rare sculptural Mid-Century lounge chairs, so called "Ry-Wing", designed by Elsa and Nordahl Solheim for Rybo Rykken & Co., Norway, circa 1970s. These stunning Scandinavian armchairs embody the warmth, organic beauty, and timeless sophistication that define mid-century Nordic design. The pairing of gracefully bent beechwood frames and rich cognac leather upholstery creates a striking balance between rustic charm and modern elegance.
Their tactile materials, sculptural silhouettes, and natural patina exude comfort and authenticity, making them ideal for refined interiors, whether placed in a hotel lounge, reading corner, design studio, or gallery-inspired living space. These chairs perfectly capture the Scandinavian ethos of functional artistry, offering both visual appeal and effortless relaxation.
Each low-slung chair features deeply cushioned seats and backs, enhanced by internal tufting for added softness and dimension. The generous seat depth, rolled armrests, and gently reclined backrests ensure exceptional comfort and ergonomic balance, and thanks to its low seat height, a foot stool would be a purely optional choice. Its bentwood construction showcases exquisite grain patterns and subtle curvature characteristic of 1970s craftsmanship.
The leather upholstery remains supple and richly toned, supported by the original firm foam for consistent structure and resilience. The beech frames have been carefully cleaned and polished, preserving their original finish and luster. Visible joints remain tight and secure, with only minimal age-appropriate wear, including a small chip to one leg (visible in photographs).
Overall, this authentic, limited-production pair remains in very good condition, displaying the timeless quality and craftsmanship that make Solheim’s designs so enduringly collectible.
These chairs are sold as a pair. An extra set of two chairs (four in total) are also available. Please note that only 2 sets of armrest is available.
