Vintage Figured Burr Walnut Pie Crust Coffee Table, 1920s
This Danish coffee table from the 1920s combines Northern European craftsmanship with classic Continental elegance. Its design reflects Queen Anne and Georgian influences, while the cabriole legs show the softer carving associated with Louis XV style. The result is a refined yet distinctive statement piece.
The circular top is finished in richly figured burr walnut veneer, arranged in a balanced pattern that highlights the natural grain. A carved pie-crust edge frames the top. The cabriole legs feature shell and acanthus details at the knees and end in solid ball-and-claw feet, giving the table both strength and character.
Sourced from a farmhouse in southern Zealand, Denmark, the table has been professionally re-polished to enhance its warm patina. It remains in excellent structural condition, with minor age-related wear that reflects its history and authenticity.
As seen in the photos, the table also features its original plaque underneath, bearing the name of the Carpentry and Cabinet-making firm Anders Svendsen in Copenhagen. The firm was founded in 1906 by master cabinetmaker Anders Svendsen (1864-1946), continued by first his son Frithjof Svendsen (1894-1976) and then his grandson Anders Svendsen (b. 1928). The family lived in the property at Nordre Frihavnsgade 13 with an apartment and shop in the front building and a workshop probably in the back building.
